Toad Bowl by Ellen Pearce-Davies

These bowls are made using a variety of reclaimed materials – the clay body contains clay
and gravel by-product reclaimed from the China Clay industry in Cornwall, and the glaze is
made from wood ash from the Community Sauna Baths. These bowls were then fired in
reduction in a gas kiln over 8 hours, creating the glassy green colour of the glaze. These bowls are the perfect size tableware for snacks and nibbles.
Ellen Pearce-Davies creates work influenced by traditional craft practices, producing carefully made everyday objects that feel both practical and uplifting to use. She prioritises natural and reclaimed materials, and works mainly with traditional, hands-on techniques. A lot of the clay she uses is dug up and prepared by her own hand, and she has a particular interest in experimenting with wood ash glazes.
