Based in Sussex, ceramicist Maya Hughes is inspired by her creative Grandparents and enjoys experimenting with both form and glaze. Maya uses a variety of kilns and firings alongside found materials to create pieces which strongly reference and connect back to nature in a bid to counteract mass-produced and artificial materials commonly in use in the world around us.
These small porcelain cups have been thrown in a way which allows the cups form to reflect the swirling movement of the potters wheel. It has been finished with a celadon glaze which changes from light to dark green across the surface of the cup, with visible drip marks at the base. The piece is fired in a gas-reduction kiln to create a glass-like finish to the surface glaze. An ideal size for cortados, espressos or as a delicate tea cup.
