Pattern Bowl by Ellen Pearce-Davies

These bowls are decorated with a reclaimed wood ash glaze – the wood ash is collected
from the Community Sauna Baths, washed, dried and mixed with feldspar. The bowls are
then fired in reduction in a gas kiln, taking around 8 hours of continuous monitoring, which
produces the green glassy colour.
Ellen Pearce-Davies creates work influenced by traditional craft practices, producing carefully made everyday objects that feel both practical and uplifting to use. She prioritises natural and reclaimed materials, and works mainly with traditional, hands-on techniques. A lot of the clay she uses is dug up and prepared by her own hand, and she has a particular interest in experimenting with wood ash glazes.
